Before it was a glorious mash of swirling sounds, picking them apart somehow makes it less exciting. It might be interesting to hear a Brit’s take( correct me if I’m wrong) on the Capitol releases of Beatles albums. Which, incidentally, was an album no one was really sure could ever properly be remixed, due to some of the issues described above with instrumented being lumped together on a single track. Revolver was the sound of the Beatles fully embracing the recording studio as a sonic canvas, free to pursue musical ideas and possibilities that would reshape rock forever. New Stereo Mix of The Beatles’ Revolver in 180g 4LP/1EP Vinyl Box Set Reveals Many New Sonic Details, Plus 2LPs of Unreleased Outtakes to Sweeten the Pot.

Much of Revolver’s music and lyrics reflect the band’s experiments with mind-expanding drugs – She Said She Said was inspired by a pre-fame Peter Fonda interrupting a Lennon acid trip. As heard on the Special Edition's Sessions One, this recording sounds very different from the released track. This was only previously available through a Genesis Publications limited edition book from 2017, which has sold out. The release centers around the new mix of the album made possible “with the help of cutting edge de-mixing technology developed by Peter Jackson’s WingNut Films Productions Ltd.On October 28, 2022, Revolver will be released worldwide in a range of beautifully presented, newly mixed and expanded Special Edition packages by Apple Corps Ltd. Some 57 years later it is still a remarkable album in terms of songcraft, but those of us who weren’t around at the time probably can’t fully appreciate how paradigm-bending and genre-warping it was when first released. In that sense, looking at the relatively threadbare musical arrangements, this is still a transitional album. Revolver's Special Edition also spotlights two more stages of the finished track's evolution: an unreleased mono mix and a special mix highlighting the overdubs of three trumpets and two tenor saxophones. Check out what an immersive experience “Yellow Submarine” has become – it has been remixed twice before, but never before have you felt the waves washing over you in the first verse, or found yourself in the center of a dinner party where “our friends are all aboard”, complete with clinking glasses and casual laughter.

Previous boxsets from Universal or Capitol used Rainbo pressing and suffered through poor pressings- particularly the solo John Lennon titles. The Revolver box set of course showcases the Grammy-winning original album artwork created by The Beatles’ longtime friend, German bassist, artist — and, for some of the solo-era Beatles, future musical collaborator — Klaus Voormann. I’ve always (well, for the past 43 years since I discovered the album) heard the yawn as well as Paul’s bass on the aforementioned section of ‘Taxman. Before the LP format existed an “album” was literally an album — a collection of 78 RPM records with their paper sleeves bound together. But, hey, the music itself herein is great, and, clearly, a lot of love and care went into its creation — and it all sounds pretty terrific too on vinyl.
