Miller’s new book is a great companion for anyone who desires to grow spiritually in a life of prayer. Books on prayer should be a welcome addition to any Christian’s library, and none more so than A Praying Life.

Promise this is the last quote because it was something that had me thinking about for awhile: “Sometimes when we say “God is silent,” what’s really going on is that He hasn’t told the story the way we wanted it told. Though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food.

Her other books include Just Enough Light for the Step I'm On; Lead Me, Holy Spirit; Prayer Warrior; and Out of Darkness. We are not to move into a godlike stance about our view of someone else’s story God is weaving, we must be reminded of Jesus’ answer to Peter’s question about John in John 21:22. I appreciate the author's grittiness and willingness to take all the frustrations of a praying life seriously. I know how praying made a difference in the moment-by-moment of motherhood when they were younger, but now I feel a greater need to parent-through-prayer.

It should also be noted that there are several places where it is evident that Miller has been influenced by the Mystics. The focus of that book, however, was on our personal prayer lives, so I’m excited to see Miller take those insights and show us how to integrate them into the corporate body.I am grateful for the opportunity God has given me to read your book and create my own takeaways to share. So many of these prayers are full of Biblical truth and deep theological meaning, but years of monotone repetition have left them feeling old and powerless.

When we slow down to pray, we are immediately confronted with how unspiritual we are, with how difficult it is to concentrate on God.The most helpful parts of the book to me included his thoughts on what it means to become like a child in prayer, praying 'in God's story,' and his prayer card system. While this isn't the best summary of the book, I want to encourage other Believers to get the book and. I have been a Christian for over 25 years, but I have always struggled to have a meaningful, consistent prayer time. The Gospel Coalition helps people know God's Word with their mind, love God fully with their heart, and engage the world with grace and truth. But I read this book anyways (because I owed my wife) and I have been forced to rethink my prior position.

If you were to ask the average Christian on the street for a list of the top five things they struggle with, I'm willing to bet that prayer will more often than not appear at the top of that list. I’ve witnessed it and have felt it, yet it’s still something I can always/need to deepen in my life.It was formerly a print journal operated by RTSF/UCCF in the UK, and it became a digital journal operated by The Gospel Coalition in 2008. Every year a few students ask me my thoughts about whether they should pursue doctoral studies and I respond with what has come to be known as ‘The Speech.
